Before the cat, there were 15 chickens…
This is probably a strange thing to see on this page. I guess I should probably give a little bit of back story…
So, I can be pretty handy around the house. I don’t mean to say this in a trope-y or ironic way. I just don’t have any real training to back it up. My family have all been in the trades for generations. 3 generations of carpenters, my great-grandfather was a master cabinet maker who build tv cabinets for a lot of America. My dad is a professional electrician and instilled this DIY, hard work, “take it apart just to put it back together again” type mindset.
I think what I want to explain with this chicken coop story is that I do in fact have some skills, and can (at least to a small degree) be trusted to explain to you how I am doing the things that I want to write to you about.
SOOOOOO…. last spring, Bella and her family adopted 15 baby chicks. It began as a small covid project — but this was back when we thought that covid would be over by June (LAST JUNE!).
In the end, Bella and I, as well as the frequent helping hand from her family, built a chicken coop for 15 full grown hens. We also build an out door, but covered run area that we call the “car port”, as well as a predator proof chicken run.
Now, it’s been nearly a year. The 15 little chicks are now full grown hens and full of entertainment. As we prepare to bring our new little kitten home this weekend, I have been developing new ideas for projects that I can do to make her new home a kitty paradise. I plan to document most of my projects here. Some of them may even be more “how to” focussed.
I bid you farewell, at least for a day or two.
